Kosciuszko Bridge Replacement

Kosciuszko Bridge Replacement Project consists of two separate phases to replace the current span which are comprised of two separate bridges, an eastbound structure and a westbound structure. Phase I consisted of the construction of the eastbound main span and approach structures adjacent to the existing structure, and the reconstruction of the connector roadways.

The new eastbound main span and reconstruction of the connector roadways, and opening of two way traffic along the eastbound main span, are now complete.

Phase II, expected to be completed under a different contract, and would consist of the construction of the westbound main span.

SIMCO provided the Traffic Engineering support for the project during Phase 1 of construction.  The scope included collecting and recording complete inventories of existing project area traffic signals, lighting and signing, reviewing, designing and obtaining approval for the proposed modifications to the Detour Plans.

Additionally, SIMCO designed all temporary and permanent traffic signals as well as the Brooklyn- Queens Expressway (BQE) and local street lighting impacted by construction. Furthermore, SIMCO prepared pavement marking and signing design along BQE and the local streets.

Lastly, it should be noted that the Kosciuszko Bridge Replacement Project is a Design/Build project contract.
